When Savita Shinde first joined Swadhar IDWC’s Phulora Centre in Pune, she was simply looking for an opportunity to learn. Little did she know that one day, she would return to the same classroom as a teacher, helping other women discover their potential.
Inspired by her sister, who had attended classes at Phulora, Savita enrolled in vocational courses in tailoring, beauty services, cake making and Aari embroidery. With every new skill, her confidence grew, and so did her belief in what she could achieve.
But Savita’s journey didn’t end with learning. She wanted to pass on what she had gained. Today, she teaches women at Phulora, guiding her third batch of learners.
For Savita, the greatest reward is watching her students find their feet. Women who once depended on their families are now taking orders, earning an income and building confidence in their abilities. Seeing their skills improve and their work take shape fills her with pride.
Savita’s story is what Phulora is all about. More than vocational training, it is about creating opportunities for women to grow, discover their strengths and support one another.
Phulora means “to bloom.” And Savita has done just that. Today, she is helping other women bloom, too.
